1920s Flapper by Allebach Photography

So I stopped by the local thrift store looking for some props for an upcoming photoshoot and found a treasure "Making the Most of your Looks" by Dorothy Stote in 1926. It's a book about 20s fashion, the do's and don'ts. How to tame big bosoms, broad shoulders, big feet...you know all the problems of a 1920s women.

Being a guy, I don't much care for what is written but the sketches and drawings were outstanding and reminded me of the 1920s Flapper photos I took two months ago.

From time to time I hear stories of people that motivate me to live better - to be better. A few months ago I had the privilege of snapping some photojournalistic shots of Chidi & Emenike Ukazime after a presentation.

Chidi Ukazime

Emenike Ukazime

They started the Intercontinental Education Community Center (ICEC2) in Otampa, Nigeria and Colombia University to help with the creation of the first green school in Africa.

ICEC2’s vision is to provide the opportunity for millions of people to have access to education that will stretch into their communities. They plan to do this through not only providing education for students, but to use the ICEC2 building to house medical clinics, training on health/hygiene, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, adult literacy programs and entrepreneurial training, including sustainable farming.

ICEC2 will also be powered using solar energy, which will provide a sustainable and reliable resource to the surrounding communities.

7 acres of land in Otampa, Nigeria have been purchased and the designs for ICEC2 have been completed. The next step is to prioritize and provide details on how each portion of the school will run. In order to help, we have partnered with ICEC2 and Colombia University’s International Development Club to help accomplish this next step.

Keep on the lookout for updates regarding this project and the progress of ICEC2. To learn more information, you can visit their website at www.icec2.org. Or, click here to donate to this project.

Blog a Day 12: Gas Mask

If blogging a day was a religon I would fail...go to hell...not collect $200. Anyway, why on earth post this kind of photo on a wedding photography blog. Who knows maybe tattooed brides would get this. I just hope it scares away bridezillas.

Philadelphia's Wedding Photographers - Allebach Photography

So I think tonite I'm going to skip posting a photo. I hope that doesn't mess up your blog stalking habits. Just to let you know what Allebach Photography has been up to...we just shot a Valentine's wedding and are still working on processing wedding photos from a few weddings, ordering tons of photos for our favorite couples and are in an album design storm.

Okay so there is no way to make what we are doing lately sound that exciting. There is no way of saying "I didn't blog photos tonite because I was ordering photos for clients" and having it sound sexy.

So to you 3 loyal readers, I leave you with this:

Rest

Photo a Day 11 - Band Photography

I had to keep this band photography session with Auburn under wraps for a while. I took the poor kids to the chester ghetto. I'm pretty sure a drug deal went down while we were shooting.

Top Wedding Photography Questions - FAQs I

Allebach Photography's FAQs

What is up with 2 photographers or an assistant?
Just as we backup our equipment we also back ourselves up. When there are two photographers at your wedding you will get more creative photos & different angles. Plus, we belong to a network of professional wedding photographers who are available to back each other up in case of emergency.

Where do you find your second photographers?
They are usually friends who own a wedding photography business with your wedding date open.

I love your photography. Are you looking for an assistant?
Sorry, we currently have more assistant requests than we can handle.

My uncle bob has a $3,000 camera. Why should we hire a professional wedding photographer?
Good question! We have experience + knowlege + talent + creativity + equipment. Equipment is just part of the formula for good photos. Plus, we have photographed dozens and dozens more weddings than uncle bob. We also carry tons of backup equipment (2-4 cameras, 6-8 lenses, lighting gear, multiple flashes). Not to mention we are legal, insured against liability and pay taxes. Also we've dealt with strict priests, crying children and stressed mother-in-laws.

Do megapixels matter?
If you see a photographer's work at 20x30 and you like it, then megapixel does not matter. End of discussion.

Do camera brands matter?
no.

Why do you photograph weddings?
We love it!

I want to have an amazing wedding, what reception sites provide a beautiful backdrop in the Philadelphia area?
Ballroom at the Ben - Center City Philadelphia, Pa
Morris Arboretum -Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Pa
Fonthill Mansion - Doylestown, Pa
Racquet Club - Center City Philadelphia
Cairnwood Mansion - Bryn Athyn, Pa
Normandy Farms - Blue Bell, Pa

I don't plan to put my engagement announcement in the newspaper, why do I need an engagement photography session?
People ask about our engagement photo sessions all the time. Do we need one? What do the e-sessions cost? Well to our wedding clients they are FREE! This time as a get to know you time. Over the years we have found that the engagement sessions let us know how comfortable in front of a camera a couple is and how to best communicate with the Bride and Groom on the wedding day.

I'm getting married in Jamaica, can you shoot a Trash the Dress or Engagement photo session for me?
Sure just shoot us an email at weddings@allebachphotography.com

Do makeup artists matter?
Besides you, your soon to be husband/wife and the pastor/officiant...the makeup artist is the most important person. They make the photograph or videographer look like a hero.

Photo a Day - 1945 Norma Jean

This photo is from the flappers shoot I did a few weeks back. Never posted it because it's one of the hundred photos that I loved but didn't have the time to post.

The picture was taken over the summer and I never blogged this children lifestyle portrait session. This is one of the twins - I guess doing this session was preparing us for our twins that are coming in August!

A Photo A Day: Day 1 - Megan & Jimmy

Today marks the day when I will post a photo a day with just a little text (much less than today). This may last 2 days or it might last a month. We'll see how it works.

Megan & Jimmy were married at the historic and beautiful Christ Church in Philadelphia, you know where George Washington and Ben Franklin went. Their reception was at the Racquet Club also in Philadelphia (I absolutely love this venue for it's red walls).

Nuff Talk.
