Kat Williams - Rock N Roll Bride - 5 Things I Learned While Planning my Wedding

We are starting to branch off the TattooedBride.com site and make it an actual wedding site for tattooed brides!  This will be one of the last posts that land on both pages.  We are taking on interns to write for the tattooed bride site and we'll provide great information on wedding planning for alternative brides.  5 Things will be a segment that industry pros write about their own wedding.  5 Things they learned while planning their wedding.

Without further ado...

5 Things I Learned While Planning My Wedding

1. Go with your heart. if you want it - do it!
2. Think of others - although its obviously your day be sure to remember the people that love you and are helping you along the way (with the planning and the relationship) - ie no bridezilla-ness allowed!
3. However much you think you stress about a certain type of flower or shade of napkin in the run up, you really won't care on the day
4. The most amazing feeling in the world is walking down that aisle and seeing your husband to be waiting for you. THAT's what it's all about baby
5. Don't spend money on stupid things you 'think' you should have. no one cares about favors.
6. (i know you only said 5 but this is important!) if you spend money on anything, make it to get the most amazing, incredible photographer. After the wedding is over the photos are what you have to look back on and you'll want to have those memories to treasure forever

Looking for wedding photos or tattooed bridesClick here.

So today I attended the East Coast Tsunami Fest.  It was like reliving 1998 with a bunch of old hardcore bands. Bands like: Sick Of It All, H20, Earth Crisis, Mushmouth, Fury Of Five, All Out War, Dysphoria, Strength For A Reason.  Videos first, then photos.  Yes, I'm mixing it up with shaky cam video.

Horse Portraits

I took these portraits of my neighbor riding her horse tonight.  Most of these photos are unprocessed and straight out of the camera.

Top Camera Picks for New Photographers - Photography Tips

Disclaimer: Lesson #1 of photography is good equipment doesn't make a good photographer. (Brides listen up, just cause someone you know owns a nice photographer doesn't mean you'll get nice wedding photos).   Example: Chase Jarvis an extreme sports and advertising photographer at the top of his game uses his iPhone to take thousands and thousands of pictures.  Even with the horrible camera on an iPhone he captures amazing photos (much better than a newbie with a pro camera).

With my little disclaimer out of the way, I can begin.  There are pieces of equipment that may help you in learning photography.  If you want to get serious about photography, I will lay out two systems that will get you started.  I have listed both with lenses that have an aperature of 1.8.  These lenses are professional and can created that "blur in the background" that professional photos have.  They also work better than other lenses inside.  I recommend either 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8 lenses to all new photographers, they can't be beat for the money.

I personally use Nikon - specifically the Nikon D700 but for new photographers I recommend the most inexpensive DSLR (digital single lens reflex) currently made.  Here is why, the image sensor (the digital film) in the cheaper SLR cameras are usually the same ones as some of the expensive cameras.  These cameras are easier to use for beginners and can take just as good quality photos as a much more expensive cameras.  The difference is that they don't have all the bells and whistles of an expensive camera.

The Nikon Camera System:

Here are all the pieces for my recommended Nikon beginner system.
  1. Nikon D3000 with 18 - 55 lens
  2. Nikon 35 mm - f/1.8 Lens
  3. Sandisk 8GB SD Card
Total Approx = $679

Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS LensCanon Camera System
I am not a Canon user but they do make great cameras.  So I will list my pics here:
    1. Canon EOS Rebel T1i with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens
    2. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens
    3. Sandisk 8GB SD Card
    Total Approx = $830

    Photo Editing
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3We recommend Picasa for simple photo management.  It is simple, easy to learn and FREE.  Once you are ready to get more advanced we recommend Lightroom 3.  Yes, it is as good as everyone says!
